Surrogacy

For some couples and individuals, pregnancy may not be medically possible despite advanced fertility treatments. In such situations, Surrogacy can provide a hopeful and life-changing path to parenthood. Surrogacy is an assisted reproductive option in which another woman carries a pregnancy on behalf of the intended parent or parents.
we provide compassionate guidance, medical evaluation, and expert reproductive support for patients exploring Surrogacy as part of their fertility journey. Our team helps intended parents understand the process clearly while ensuring safe, ethical, and evidence-based care.

What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is an advanced reproductive arrangement in which a woman, known as the surrogate, carries and delivers a baby for another individual or couple, known as the intended parent(s). It is usually considered when pregnancy is medically unsafe, not possible, or has repeatedly failed despite treatment.
In most modern fertility practice, surrogacy is performed through gestational surrogacy, where an embryo created through IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is transferred into the surrogate’s uterus. In this method, the surrogate does not contribute her own egg.
Surrogacy may be considered a suitable option when the intended mother cannot safely carry a pregnancy due to uterine, medical, or repeated reproductive complications.

Types of Surrogacy

  • 1. Gestational Surrogacy: This is the most commonly used and medically accepted form of surrogacy. An embryo is created in the laboratory using the intended mother’s eggs (or donor eggs) and the intended father’s sperm (or donor sperm), then transferred into the surrogate’s uterus.
      In gestational surrogacy:
    • The surrogate carries the pregnancy
    • The surrogate does not provide the egg
    • The embryo is created through IVF or ICSI
    • It is usually the preferred clinical approach
  • 2. Traditional Surrogacy: In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate’s own egg is used, which means she is genetically related to the baby. This approach is less commonly used and is often not preferred in modern fertility practice due to medical, ethical, and legal complexities.

Benefits of Surrogacy

Surrogacy offers several important benefits for intended parents:

  • Provides a path to parenthood when pregnancy is not medically possible
  • Helpful in cases of absent or non-functional uterus
  • Useful when carrying a pregnancy is unsafe
  • Allows use of intended parents’ embryos in many cases
  • Can improve chances when repeated IVF fails due to uterine issues
  • Offers hope after multiple reproductive disappointments
  • Allows a biological connection in many gestational surrogacy cases
  • Can be combined with donor egg, donor sperm, or embryo programs when needed
